About the Department
Ardent, the Tech and Analytics Society of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, is one of the most vibrant and rapidly evolving societies, founded with the vision of cultivating industry-relevant skills and fostering holistic student development. Built on the pillars of innovation and practical learning, the society actively engages in verticals such as Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Financial Modeling, and Strategic Thinking.
Through a series of high-impact seminars and hands-on workshops on Generative AI, Machine Learning, Advanced Excel, and more, Ardent ensures that its members are equipped with the tools and knowledge to thrive in a competitive environment. The society has successfully collaborated with industry leaders like Wise Finserv and Implementors on live projects in financial planning, digital marketing, and branding, offering students real-time exposure to professional workflows and strategic execution.
Ardent further strengthens its commitment to student advancement by conducting webinars and mentorship sessions led by professionals from EY, fintech startups, and AI-driven firms. Collaborations with platforms such as Thinking Bridge have empowered members to gain proficiency in tools like Power BI and Excel, while simultaneously deepening their understanding of decision science and analytics.
AVISHKAAR, the society’s annual flagship event, saw participation from across Delhi University through events like Creator’s Meet, Excellect, and AI Nexus, merging creativity, problem-solving, and emerging technologies into a dynamic, competitive platform. Ardent continues to bridge the gap between academia and the professional world, nurturing future-ready individuals with every initiative it undertakes.
Apart from this, the Department publishes a Peer Reviewed Refereed “Journal of Business Studies” that provides the researchers with a major platform to publish their quality research work. The Department of Commerce also organizes an International Conference on contemporary issues in Business and Management every year which sees participation from across the globe. This year the Department organized 12th International Conference of Business & Management, 2025 on 18-19 February 2025, at the college auditorium on the theme “Sustainable Business Transformation: Driving Innovation & Impact Through Technology.” The Conference was a remarkable gathering of brilliant minds, thought leaders, and passionate researchers dedicated to shaping sustainable business solutions through the use of technology.

Journal of Business Studies
The Journal of Business Studies is a peer-reviewed, refereed journal of the Department of Commerce, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College (NAAC Accredited ‘A’ Grade College), University of Delhi. The Department has been publishing this journal for more than 35 years. In 2008, the journal obtained its International Standard Serial Number (ISSN: 0975-0150).
The journal aims to provide researchers with a major platform to study various business and management issues in the areas of finance, accounting, marketing, international business, economics, human resource management, and organizational behavior and human relations (OBHR). Work reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of commerce, business, and management—especially those exploring emerging horizons—is also considered relevant for publication.
The journal publishes research papers based on empirical work in the above-mentioned areas. However, in exceptional cases, articles based purely on original theoretical work are also considered for publication.
Papers and articles submitted by authors undergo a two-stage review process. The first stage involves a preliminary review by the Editorial Team of the college, comprising members with diverse interests and expertise. The second stage is a blind review conducted by eminent academicians and scholars from outside the college with relevant expertise in the respective fields.

Student Achievements
The Department conducted an Orientation Programme for first-year students in the college’s Open-Air Auditorium on August 29, 2024. The programme served to welcome and familiarize the new batch with the department’s culture, academic curriculum, and available opportunities. Faculty members, including the Teacher-in-Charge, Prof. Shikha Gupta, delivered an insightful address emphasizing academic excellence and holistic development. The event concluded with a guided campus tour, aimed at helping students connect with their new environment and prepare for the academic journey ahead. The Department of Commerce, in collaboration with the University of Delhi, conducted an online meeting on September 30, 2024, to draft guidelines for B.Com (Hons.) Semester V, Paper DSC 5.1, Income Tax: Law and Practice. Convened by Prof. Shikha Gupta, with Dr. Pooja Goel as the University Representative, the meeting was attended by 99 faculty members from across affiliated colleges. Another meeting was held on March 18, 2025, to recommend guidelines for B.Com (Hons.) Semester II, Paper GE 2.1, Communication in Management. Ms. Subathra V served as Convener, and Dr. Purushottam Kumar Arya represented the University. Both sessions aimed to ensure uniformity and enhance the teaching-learning process. The Department, under the aegis of the IQAC, organised a three-day offline Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Business Analytics using R” from 2nd to 4th January 2025, for teachers and research scholars. The FDP aimed to impart both theoretical knowledge and practical training in R, a vital tool for delivering the newly introduced undergraduate paper, Business Analytics. The programme acquainted participants with the principles of business intelligence and analytics, equipping them to make data-driven decisions and address business challenges effectively. To fulfil these objectives, expert sessions covered key topics such as Data Cleaning, Data Visualisation, Data Description, Textual Analysis (including Text Mining and Sentiment Analysis), and Linear Regression Models for predictive modelling. The programme featured distinguished resource persons, Professor C.P. Gupta and Dr. Arun Julka, both highly esteemed in their respective domains. Faculty members and research scholars from across the University of Delhi actively engaged in the FDP and commended its comprehensive content and smooth coordination. Farewell Function- 9 December 2024 A warm and memorable farewell ceremony for Prof. Harish Handa was held on 9 December 2024 at India Grill, Hilton, DLF Place, Saket District Centre, New Delhi. Journal of Business Studies It is a matter of great pride to announce the release of The Journal of Business Studies (Volume XIII, 2023), published by the Department of Commerce, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, on 22nd July 2024. The occasion was graced by the Honourable Vice Chancellor of the University of Delhi, Professor Yogesh Singh, along with other esteemed dignitaries, who unveiled the latest edition of this respected peer-reviewed, refereed journal. Published consistently for over three decades, this journal stands as a testament to the Department’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and scholarly contribution in the field of business studies. The current volume reflects the tireless efforts and editorial expertise of the team comprising Dr Vandana Dahiya (Editor-in-Chief), Dr Shalini Gupta and Professor Ruchi Gupta (Editorial Advisory Board Members), and Mr Biplab Kumar Dey (Managing Editor). The journal continues to serve as a valuable platform for academic discourse and remains an important resource for researchers, scholars, and students engaged in the pursuit of knowledge in business and commerce. The Commerce Association successfully hosted the second edition of the Commerce Association Alumni Relationship Programme (CAARP) on 12th September 2024, fostering meaningful engagement between alumni and current students. The event featured insightful discussions on career trajectories, industry trends, and professional development, offering students valuable guidance from distinguished alumni. CAARP 2.0 reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to strengthening alumni relations and promoting knowledge exchange to support the professional growth of its members. A webinar on 8th October 2024, titled “Blueprints of Change: Women Entrepreneurs Transforming Our World.” The session highlighted the pivotal role of women entrepreneurs in driving both economic and social transformation. Industry leaders and entrepreneurs shared their experiences, challenges, and strategies for fostering innovation and sustainable growth. The discussion provided valuable insights into the evolving entrepreneurial landscape, with a strong emphasis on the importance of inclusivity and resilience in business. The webinar served as a platform for meaningful knowledge exchange and inspiration for aspiring entrepreneurs. A Canva Workshop was conducted on 21st October 2024 to enhance participants’ design skills for academic and professional applications. The session addressed key areas such as layout design, branding, and content optimisation, and included hands-on exercises in creating presentations, social media posts, and marketing materials. Attendees gained practical experience in utilising Canva as a tool for effective visual communication. The third Business Colloquium was held on 8th November 2024, themed “Circular Economy Conundrum: Balancing Profit and Planet.” The event featured a panel discussion on circular supply chains and a speaker session on circular business models, both of which highlighted sustainable strategies and their implications for profitability. The colloquium fostered critical discourse on the alignment of economic growth with environmental sustainability. Adwitiya In a landmark initiative for the year, the Commerce Association introduced its first-ever Annual Magazine, Vyaparth, marking a new chapter in its journey of academic and creative excellence. This publication aimed to provide a platform for students to engage with contemporary themes in commerce, economics, finance, and public policy, while also showcasing original thought, analytical writing, and creative expression. The magazine featured a curated collection of student articles, interviews, opinion pieces, and reflective essays, along with glimpses into the Association’s flagship events and activities throughout the year. The Commerce Association of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College embarked on yet another pioneering journey with the launch of its very own podcast series, Business Beyond, a first-of-its-kind initiative under its banner. The podcast featured the founders of Indian startups featured and funded on Shark Tank India. The 16th edition of its annual flagship fest, Uddayam, was hosted on the 11th and 12th of April 2025 as part of Comfest, drawing 1300+ participants nationwide. Sponsored by Leverage Edu, and powered by Zerodha and Boult Audio. Key events included Contrivance (a case competition on mergers & acquisitions), Marcrix (a marketing challenge with an IPL twist), and Estate Enigma 2.0 (a real estate investment simulation). ARDENT: The Tech and Analytics Society The past year marked a significant milestone for Ardent, through a series of insightful and engaging events aimed at equipping students with technical, analytical, and strategic competencies. From seminars on cutting-edge technologies to competitive events that tested participants’ knowledge and creativity, Ardent continued to foster a culture of learning, innovation, and industry-oriented skill development. A hands-on seminar was organised, led by industry expert CA Archit Agarwal, focusing on Excel and Power BI. The session enabled participants to acquire practical skills in data visualisation, dashboard creation, and real-world data analysis. Internship opportunities were also introduced through Ardent’s collaboration with Thinking Bridge, thereby offering valuable industry exposure. The seminar highlighted the growing strategic importance of data analytics in contemporary decision-making and career planning. A seminar on Generative AI was conducted by Mr Paras Madan, AI Engineer and Data Scientist, to explore the evolving role of artificial intelligence across sectors. The session focused on applications in business operations, finance, and analytics, and provided interdisciplinary insights relevant to commerce students. The discussion underscored AI’s transformative impact and its role in driving innovation and future career trajectories. Ardent conducted an Excel training session led by Hardik Singhal, CA aspirant and EY articleship trainee, aimed at developing students’ proficiency in data management and analysis. Key functions such as Conditional Formatting, Filters, COUNTIFS, and SUMIFS were covered. With a strong emphasis on practical applications, the session supported both academic and professional growth and reaffirmed Ardent’s focus on experiential learning and industry relevance. A webinar on Machine Learning was hosted, featuring AI expert Mr Shubhankit Sirvaiya. The session explored ML applications in commerce, including personalised marketing, dynamic pricing, and fraud detection, and featured a case study on a Loan Approval System. Emphasising real-world relevance, the webinar encouraged students to explore AI’s potential in finance and business, aligning with Ardent’s goal of bridging theoretical knowledge with practical insight. Ardent is set to enrich this year’s college Comfest through its flagship event, Avishkaar’25, which integrates creativity, technology, and competition across three major activities. The Creators Meet will bring together influencers from diverse fields, Excellect will present a high- intensity Excel-based data analysis challenge, and AI Nexus will evolve from a quiz into an AI voice synthesis podcast competition. These dynamic events are designed to spark innovation, enhance skills, and foster a strong sense of community engagement. Avishkaar’25 reflects Ardent’s mission to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and provide a platform for students to explore emerging trends while celebrating their unique talents. Convener: Dr. Saher Sayed, Co-Convener: Dr. Ranjana Thakur The Marketing Society conducted a dynamic array of events and initiatives during this academic session, fostering creativity, innovation, and professional development among its members. A major highlight of the year was Markade 3.0, which attracted participation from over 500 students, particularly first-year undergraduates. The event featured a series of engaging activities, including Heads Up, Pictionary, and Marketing Trivia. Its flagship segment, Dungeons and Dares, promoted campus exploration and peer interaction, offering prizes worth ₹50,000. Additional features, such as a dedicated photo booth, contributed to the festive atmosphere and heightened student involvement. An orientation ceremony was organised to familiarise new students with the Society’s core values, vision, and legacy. The session included an overview of past flagship events such as Elixir and Markade and concluded with a Q&A segment addressing recruitment queries, thereby encouraging enthusiastic engagement from prospective members. During the academic year, the Society also showcased several live projects, most notably a collaboration with Motorola on the #RangeelaReCampaign, which garnered over 5 million impressions and 560,000 likes. Another notable project with Current Noodles significantly enhanced brand visibility through the strategic use of social media reels and pan-India networking initiatives. A series of knowledge-sharing sessions was conducted under the MarkTalks banner, featuring esteemed speakers from the entrepreneurial and corporate spheres. Key contributors included Dhruv Verma and Sahil Manral (Founders, Rize Bar), Dr Ashok Kumar Sangwan (linking academia with industry), Ms Jigyasa Laroiya (branding strategist), and Mr Sahil Khanna (expert in AI applications for digital marketing). These sessions provided students with valuable insights into contemporary marketing practices and emerging industry trends. To strengthen practical understanding, members undertook skill-building exercises such as formulating market entry strategies for Chick-fil-A in the Indian context and analysing the business model of Magicpin. In addition, technical workshops on Canva and LinkedIn were conducted to enhance students’ proficiency in graphic design, digital outreach, and professional networking. Through its diverse initiatives, the Marketing Society reinforced its commitment to experiential learning, industry relevance, and student development. The year’s activities greatly enriched members’ academic and professional growth, establishing the Society as a dynamic platform for aspiring marketers. The Supply Chain Management (SCM) Cell organised a series of impactful events that seamlessly integrating academic learning with practical engagement. Key initiatives—Sync Chain, Supply Sphere, and the Skill Session—provided students with valuable opportunities to explore core supply chain concepts through interactive challenges, expert-led discussions, and hands-on training. On 15th November 2024, the SCM Cell hosted an exclusive online workshop titled LinkedIn Edge: Strategic Networking for Growth, in collaboration with LinkedIn content creator Ms Vartika Rawat. The session offered actionable strategies to strengthen students’ LinkedIn presence and unlock professional opportunities. Sync Chain, conducted on 5th October 2024, simulated key stages of the supply chain—Raw Materials, Production, and Distribution—through a three-phase challenge involving scavenger hunts, riddles, and coordination tasks, thereby fostering strategic thinking and collaborative problem-solving. Supply Sphere featured a virtual mentorship series. On 2nd December 2024, Mr Yogesh Shinde delivered a session on sustainable urban supply chains, followed by Mr Faisal Khan on 10th January 2025, who shared insights into supply chain careers and industry preparedness. The Skill Session, held on 13th February 2025, focused on Data Analysis and Visualisation, Negotiation and Communication, and Crisis Management. The session was enriched with case studies and live demonstrations to enhance practical understanding. These initiatives reflect the SCM Cell’s commitment to aligning academic pursuits with industry expectations, equipping students with essential skills for success in dynamic supply chain environments. 180 Degrees Consulting (180 DC) is the world’s largest student-led consultancy, committed to delivering affordable, high-quality consulting services to non-profits and social enterprises. At 180 DC SBSC, the society continues to uphold its mission of providing strategic solutions to socially driven organisations, while nurturing leadership, critical thinking, and professional development among its members. During the academic session 2024–25, 180 DC SBSC undertook several impactful initiatives. A collaborative session with the Placement Cell was organised to guide first-year students on excelling in case competitions. A new department, Case Library & Resources, was established, curating a comprehensive collection of materials including a Consulting Interview Guide, case studies, guesstimates, frameworks, and competition resources. Internal training sessions were conducted for freshers, covering key areas such as consulting basics, cold emailing and calling, Canva design, research methodologies, and guesstimates. The society expanded its mentorship and industry engagement by onboarding over 30 professionals from leading firms, including the Big 3 and Big 4. Notable sessions were held with Alvarez & Marsal on consulting interview techniques and with BCG on the role of Generative AI in consulting. An intra-society case competition was also conducted, where seven teams, each mentored by a junior core member, demonstrated their problem-solving capabilities—contributing to the society’s strong performance in external contests. 180 DC SBSC achieved remarkable success across various intercollegiate platforms. Roshan Talreja secured second place at Maitreyi College, while Ashutosh and Pragyansh earned third place at CVS. Krish emerged as a national-level winner at DTU, and the team of Hriday, Siyona, and Tejas claimed victory at MDI Gurgaon. Ashutosh, Pragyansh, and Harsh were runners-up at Masters’ Union, earning a cash prize of ₹30,000, while Yash won at IIM Amritsar. These accomplishments were underpinned by the society’s structured training and mentorship framework. At 180 DC SBSC, we deliver affordable, high-quality consulting solutions to socially driven organizations while cultivating future leaders. The Department of Commerce, in collaboration with the Committee for Promotion of Financial Literacy, University of Delhi organized a workshop on “Financial Literacy: Prosperity and Wealth” on 22nd June 2023. Prominent speakers and resource persons at the workshop included Dr. R.P. Tulsian (Chairman, Committee for Promotion of Financial Literacy), Prof. Amit Kumar Singh, (Department of Commerce), and Shri Suryakant Sharma, a senior consultant at AMFI and the former DGM of SEBI. Department Societies: In addition to classroom teaching, the department strives to educate its students holistically by exposing them to leadership and entrepreneurship through its many societies,. viz. Commerce Association, Marketing Society, 180 Degree Consulting and Ardent. This year all the four societies of the Department organized their Annual Fests under a common umbrella – COMMFEST 2024.
