2024-25
Orientation Program
The Department conducted an Orientation Programme for first-year students in the college’s Open-Air Auditorium on August 29, 2024. The programme served to welcome and familiarize the new batch with the department’s culture, academic curriculum, and available opportunities. Faculty members, including the Teacher-in-Charge, Prof. Shikha Gupta, delivered an insightful address emphasizing academic excellence and holistic development. The event concluded with a guided campus tour, aimed at helping students connect with their new environment and prepare for the academic journey ahead.
Guidelines Meetings
The Department of Commerce, in collaboration with the University of Delhi, conducted an online meeting on September 30, 2024, to draft guidelines for B.Com (Hons.) Semester V, Paper DSC 5.1, Income Tax: Law and Practice. Convened by Prof. Shikha Gupta, with Dr. Pooja Goel as the University Representative, the meeting was attended by 99 faculty members from across affiliated colleges.
Another meeting was held on March 18, 2025, to recommend guidelines for B.Com (Hons.) Semester II, Paper GE 2.1, Communication in Management. Ms. Subathra V served as Convener, and Dr. Purushottam Kumar Arya represented the University. Both sessions aimed to ensure uniformity and enhance the teaching-learning process.
FDP on “Business Analytics using R”: 2-4 January 2025
The Department, under the aegis of the IQAC, organised a three-day offline Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Business Analytics using R” from 2nd to 4th January 2025, for teachers and research scholars. The FDP aimed to impart both theoretical knowledge and practical training in R, a vital tool for delivering the newly introduced undergraduate paper, Business Analytics. The programme acquainted participants with the principles of business intelligence and analytics, equipping them to make data-driven decisions and address business challenges effectively.
To fulfil these objectives, expert sessions covered key topics such as Data Cleaning, Data Visualisation, Data Description, Textual Analysis (including Text Mining and Sentiment Analysis), and Linear Regression Models for predictive modelling. The programme featured distinguished resource persons, Professor C.P. Gupta and Dr. Arun Julka, both highly esteemed in their respective domains. Faculty members and research scholars from across the University of Delhi actively engaged in the FDP and commended its comprehensive content and smooth coordination.
Farewell Function- 9 December 2024
A warm and memorable farewell ceremony for Prof. Harish Handa was held on 9 December 2024 at India Grill, Hilton, DLF Place, Saket District Centre, New Delhi.
Journal of Business Studies
It is a matter of great pride to announce the release of The Journal of Business Studies (Volume XIII, 2023), published by the Department of Commerce, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, on 22nd July 2024. The occasion was graced by the Honourable Vice Chancellor of the University of Delhi, Professor Yogesh Singh, along with other esteemed dignitaries, who unveiled the latest edition of this respected peer-reviewed, refereed journal.
Published consistently for over three decades, this journal stands as a testament to the Department’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and scholarly contribution in the field of business studies.
The current volume reflects the tireless efforts and editorial expertise of the team comprising Dr Vandana Dahiya (Editor-in-Chief), Dr Shalini Gupta and Professor Ruchi Gupta (Editorial Advisory Board Members), and Mr Biplab Kumar Dey (Managing Editor).
The journal continues to serve as a valuable platform for academic discourse and remains an important resource for researchers, scholars, and students engaged in the pursuit of knowledge in business and commerce.

Association Alumni Relationship Program
The Commerce Association successfully hosted the second edition of the Commerce Association Alumni Relationship Programme (CAARP) on 12th September 2024, fostering meaningful engagement between alumni and current students. The event featured insightful discussions on career trajectories, industry trends, and professional development, offering students valuable guidance from distinguished alumni. CAARP 2.0 reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to strengthening alumni relations and promoting knowledge exchange to support the professional growth of its members.
Webinar – Blueprints of Change
A webinar on 8th October 2024, titled “Blueprints of Change: Women Entrepreneurs Transforming Our World.” The session highlighted the pivotal role of women entrepreneurs in driving both economic and social transformation. Industry leaders and entrepreneurs shared their experiences, challenges, and strategies for fostering innovation and sustainable growth. The discussion provided valuable insights into the evolving entrepreneurial landscape, with a strong emphasis on the importance of inclusivity and resilience in business. The webinar served as a platform for meaningful knowledge exchange and inspiration for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Canva Workshop
A Canva Workshop was conducted on 21st October 2024 to enhance participants’ design skills for academic and professional applications. The session addressed key areas such as layout design, branding, and content optimisation, and included hands-on exercises in creating presentations, social media posts, and marketing materials. Attendees gained practical experience in utilising Canva as a tool for effective visual communication.
Business Colloquium
The third Business Colloquium was held on 8th November 2024, themed “Circular Economy Conundrum: Balancing Profit and Planet.” The event featured a panel discussion on circular supply chains and a speaker session on circular business models, both of which highlighted sustainable strategies and their implications for profitability. The colloquium fostered critical discourse on the alignment of economic growth with environmental sustainability.
Adwitiya
- Vyaparth: The Annual Magazine
In a landmark initiative for the year, the Commerce Association introduced its first-ever Annual Magazine, Vyaparth, marking a new chapter in its journey of academic and creative excellence.
This publication aimed to provide a platform for students to engage with contemporary themes in commerce, economics, finance, and public policy, while also showcasing original thought, analytical writing, and creative expression. The magazine featured a curated collection of student articles, interviews, opinion pieces, and reflective essays, along with glimpses into the Association’s flagship events and activities throughout the year.
- Business Beyond
The Commerce Association of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College embarked on yet another pioneering journey with the launch of its very own podcast series, Business Beyond, a first-of-its-kind initiative under its banner. The podcast featured the founders of Indian startups featured and funded on Shark Tank India.
- Uddayam
The 16th edition of its annual flagship fest, Uddayam, was hosted on the 11th and 12th of April 2025 as part of Comfest, drawing 1300+ participants nationwide. Sponsored by Leverage Edu, and powered by Zerodha and Boult Audio. Key events included Contrivance (a case competition on mergers & acquisitions), Marcrix (a marketing challenge with an IPL twist), and Estate Enigma 2.0 (a real estate investment simulation).
ARDENT: The Tech and Analytics Society

The past year marked a significant milestone for Ardent, through a series of insightful and engaging events aimed at equipping students with technical, analytical, and strategic competencies. From seminars on cutting-edge technologies to competitive events that tested participants’ knowledge and creativity, Ardent continued to foster a culture of learning, innovation, and industry-oriented skill development.
Data Analytics Seminar
A hands-on seminar was organised, led by industry expert CA Archit Agarwal, focusing on Excel and Power BI. The session enabled participants to acquire practical skills in data visualisation, dashboard creation, and real-world data analysis. Internship opportunities were also introduced through Ardent’s collaboration with Thinking Bridge, thereby offering valuable industry exposure. The seminar highlighted the growing strategic importance of data analytics in contemporary decision-making and career planning.
Seminar on Generative AI
A seminar on Generative AI was conducted by Mr Paras Madan, AI Engineer and Data Scientist, to explore the evolving role of artificial intelligence across sectors. The session focused on applications in business operations, finance, and analytics, and provided interdisciplinary insights relevant to commerce students. The discussion underscored AI’s transformative impact and its role in driving innovation and future career trajectories.
Excel Seminar: Enhancing Analytical Proficiency
Ardent conducted an Excel training session led by Hardik Singhal, CA aspirant and EY articleship trainee, aimed at developing students’ proficiency in data management and analysis. Key functions such as Conditional Formatting, Filters, COUNTIFS, and SUMIFS were covered. With a strong emphasis on practical applications, the session supported both academic and professional growth and reaffirmed Ardent’s focus on experiential learning and industry relevance.
Machine Learning Webinar
A webinar on Machine Learning was hosted, featuring AI expert Mr Shubhankit Sirvaiya. The session explored ML applications in commerce, including personalised marketing, dynamic pricing, and fraud detection, and featured a case study on a Loan Approval System. Emphasising real-world relevance, the webinar encouraged students to explore AI’s potential in finance and business, aligning with Ardent’s goal of bridging theoretical knowledge with practical insight.
Avishkaar’25: Flagship Event at Comfest
Ardent is set to enrich this year’s college Comfest through its flagship event, Avishkaar’25, which integrates creativity, technology, and competition across three major activities. The Creators Meet will bring together influencers from diverse fields, Excellect will present a high- intensity Excel-based data analysis challenge, and AI Nexus will evolve from a quiz into an AI voice synthesis podcast competition. These dynamic events are designed to spark innovation, enhance skills, and foster a strong sense of community engagement. Avishkaar’25 reflects Ardent’s mission to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and provide a platform for students to explore emerging trends while celebrating their unique talents.


MARKSOC: The Marketing Society

The Marketing Society conducted a dynamic array of events and initiatives during this academic session, fostering creativity, innovation, and professional development among its members.
A major highlight of the year was Markade 3.0, which attracted participation from over 500 students, particularly first-year undergraduates. The event featured a series of engaging activities, including Heads Up, Pictionary, and Marketing Trivia. Its flagship segment, Dungeons and Dares, promoted campus exploration and peer interaction, offering prizes worth ₹50,000. Additional features, such as a dedicated photo booth, contributed to the festive atmosphere and heightened student involvement.
An orientation ceremony was organised to familiarise new students with the Society’s core values, vision, and legacy. The session included an overview of past flagship events such as Elixir and Markade and concluded with a Q&A segment addressing recruitment queries, thereby encouraging enthusiastic engagement from prospective members.
During the academic year, the Society also showcased several live projects, most notably a collaboration with Motorola on the #RangeelaReCampaign, which garnered over 5 million impressions and 560,000 likes. Another notable project with Current Noodles significantly enhanced brand visibility through the strategic use of social media reels and pan-India networking initiatives.
A series of knowledge-sharing sessions was conducted under the MarkTalks banner, featuring esteemed speakers from the entrepreneurial and corporate spheres. Key contributors included Dhruv Verma and Sahil Manral (Founders, Rize Bar), Dr Ashok Kumar Sangwan (linking academia with industry), Ms Jigyasa Laroiya (branding strategist), and Mr Sahil Khanna (expert in AI applications for digital marketing). These sessions provided students with valuable insights into contemporary marketing practices and emerging industry trends.
To strengthen practical understanding, members undertook skill-building exercises such as formulating market entry strategies for Chick-fil-A in the Indian context and analysing the business model of Magicpin. In addition, technical workshops on Canva and LinkedIn were conducted to enhance students’ proficiency in graphic design, digital outreach, and professional networking.
Through its diverse initiatives, the Marketing Society reinforced its commitment to experiential learning, industry relevance, and student development. The year’s activities greatly enriched members’ academic and professional growth, establishing the Society as a dynamic platform for aspiring marketers.
Supply Chain Management Cell
Convener: Ms. Shivangi Dhawan
The Supply Chain Management (SCM) Cell organised a series of impactful events that seamlessly integrating academic learning with practical engagement. Key initiatives—Sync Chain, Supply Sphere, and the Skill Session—provided students with valuable opportunities to explore core supply chain concepts through interactive challenges, expert-led discussions, and hands-on training.
On 15th November 2024, the SCM Cell hosted an exclusive online workshop titled LinkedIn Edge: Strategic Networking for Growth, in collaboration with LinkedIn content creator Ms Vartika Rawat. The session offered actionable strategies to strengthen students’ LinkedIn presence and unlock professional opportunities.
Sync Chain, conducted on 5th October 2024, simulated key stages of the supply chain—Raw Materials, Production, and Distribution—through a three-phase challenge involving scavenger hunts, riddles, and coordination tasks, thereby fostering strategic thinking and collaborative problem-solving.
Supply Sphere featured a virtual mentorship series. On 2nd December 2024, Mr Yogesh Shinde delivered a session on sustainable urban supply chains, followed by Mr Faisal Khan on 10th January 2025, who shared insights into supply chain careers and industry preparedness.
The Skill Session, held on 13th February 2025, focused on Data Analysis and Visualisation, Negotiation and Communication, and Crisis Management. The session was enriched with case studies and live demonstrations to enhance practical understanding.
These initiatives reflect the SCM Cell’s commitment to aligning academic pursuits with industry expectations, equipping students with essential skills for success in dynamic supply chain environments.
180 DC: The 180 Degrees Consulting Society

180 Degrees Consulting (180 DC) is the world’s largest student-led consultancy, committed to delivering affordable, high-quality consulting services to non-profits and social enterprises. At 180 DC SBSC, the society continues to uphold its mission of providing strategic solutions to socially driven organisations, while nurturing leadership, critical thinking, and professional development among its members.
During the academic session 2024–25, 180 DC SBSC undertook several impactful initiatives. A collaborative session with the Placement Cell was organised to guide first-year students on excelling in case competitions. A new department, Case Library & Resources, was established, curating a comprehensive collection of materials including a Consulting Interview Guide, case studies, guesstimates, frameworks, and competition resources. Internal training sessions were conducted for freshers, covering key areas such as consulting basics, cold emailing and calling, Canva design, research methodologies, and guesstimates. The society expanded its mentorship and industry engagement by onboarding over 30 professionals from leading firms, including the Big 3 and Big 4. Notable sessions were held with Alvarez & Marsal on consulting interview techniques and with BCG on the role of Generative AI in consulting. An intra-society case competition was also conducted, where seven teams, each mentored by a junior core member, demonstrated their problem-solving capabilities—contributing to the society’s strong performance in external contests.
180 DC SBSC achieved remarkable success across various intercollegiate platforms. Roshan Talreja secured second place at Maitreyi College, while Ashutosh and Pragyansh earned third place at CVS. Krish emerged as a national-level winner at DTU, and the team of Hriday, Siyona, and Tejas claimed victory at MDI Gurgaon. Ashutosh, Pragyansh, and Harsh were runners-up at Masters’ Union, earning a cash prize of ₹30,000, while Yash won at IIM Amritsar. These accomplishments were underpinned by the society’s structured training and mentorship framework.

Two short research reports were published: Retail Giants, a comparative analysis of multinational corporations, and Behind the Boardroom, offering sectoral insights into leading companies in the Travel, EdTech, and Music Streaming industries.
These endeavours reflect 180 DC SBSC’s continued commitment to experiential learning, practical skill-building, and meaningful social impact, reinforcing its role as a premier student- led consultancy dedicated to nurturing future leaders.

Financial Literacy Workshop:
The Department of Commerce, in collaboration with the Committee for Promotion of Financial Literacy, University of Delhi organized a workshop on “Financial Literacy: Prosperity and Wealth” on 22nd June 2023. Prominent speakers and resource persons at the workshop included Dr. R.P. Tulsian (Chairman, Committee for Promotion of Financial Literacy), Prof. Amit Kumar Singh, (Department of Commerce), and Shri Suryakant Sharma, a senior consultant at AMFI and the former DGM of SEBI.
Department Societies:
In addition to classroom teaching, the department strives to educate its students holistically by exposing them to leadership and entrepreneurship through its many societies,. viz. Commerce Association, Marketing Society, 180 Degree Consulting and Ardent. This year all the four societies of the Department organized their Annual Fests under a common umbrella – COMMFEST 2024.

COMSOC: The Commerce Association

- Commerce Association Alumni Relationship Program (CAARP): Organised its first Alumni Relationship Program (CAARP) on 26th August 2023. The panel included the esteemed alumni of the society and they addressed the freshers on various issues including their career choices and other related endeavors.
- Adwitiya – Annual Flagship Event of Commerce Association: Eighth Edition of Adwitiya- Hunar aur Jazbe ka Sangam, a talent-show for the specially abled, was organized on 4th November 2023, with an enthusiastic presence of over 200 audience. The event was graced by Mr. Dependra Pathak, IPS, Special Commissioner of Police, Law and Order Division as Chief Guest and Shri Rajendra Singh Ji as Guest of Honor.
- Contrivance – The Case Study Competition: Ninth Edition of Contrivance was organized on 14th March The event had an active participation of over 500 participants. The theme of this year’s event was- “Navigating Strategic Alliances: Elevation through Collaborative Mergers”.
- Uddayam – The Annual Commerce Fest celebrated its fifteenth edition on April 26–27, The event saw the participation of approximately 1500 participants from various colleges competing in 4 different competitions namely- ResQ Bid, Mad Men Marketing, Rogue Trader and Estate Enigma, challenging and testing their skills and acumen in the field of commerce. Designed to challenge and inspire the brightest minds, Uddayam offers a platform for students to showcase their talents, sharpen their skills and unlock their potential through a series of dynamic competitions.

ARDENT: The Tech and Analytics Society

- FUSION 2.0: a fun filled event where participants were engaged in enlightening discussions, creative workshops and the activities which encouraged personal growth and introspection.
- Workshop on Artificial Intelligence Workshop: Mr. Rahul Menon, a seasoned public speaker who illuminated the audience on AI’s pivotal role across diverse industries and the intricacies of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). It was an enlightening journey ranging from unravelling the mysteries of machine learning to decoding the safeguarding innovation.
- AVISHKAAR ’24 – The Annual Fest: Avishkaar was organised on 26th -27th April 2024, encompassing events such as AI Cryptic Hunt, LA Bourse- Beat the Street and Creator’s Meet. The participants had an immersive experience and deeper understanding into the world of Technology, Finance and Content Creation.
- Live Projects were taken up with WISEFINSERV comprising a Team of 13 members from ARDENT SBSC and With IMPLEMENTORS having Team of 21 members from ARDENT SBSC.
MARKSOC: The Marketing Society

- Markade O: the promotional event of the society, was held on 26th August, 2023 with the participation of around 300 students. Major activities included wristwatch sampling stall, game booths, engaging contests like ‘Pictionary‘ and ‘Guess the Logo/Tagline‘. The event received generous support from gifting sponsor Budweiser ‘BINGE THE RING‘, an activity that encouraged the students to explore the campus and interact with peers.
- Orientation Ceremony of the Society was held on 4th September 2023 to introduce incoming freshers to the core values, objectives and activities of the society.
- LinkedIn & Cold-Calling Workshop was conducted on 18th October 2023 for the members of the Live Project and External Relations Department. It offered practical training in vital areas of Marketing and External Relations.
- A Canva workshop was held in collaboration with the College Entrepreneurship Cell (E-Cell) in the month of Ms. Heena Sheikh, the creator of Growthaholics and a renowned industry expert, gave the participants an insight into her vast experience and proficiency in visual storytelling.The workshop offered valuable learning opportunities in digital design.
- The annual article writing competition “Articulate O” was hosted on 17th February 2024 to showcase participants’ competence in marketing-related themes.
- Marktalks were organised through various coordinated sessions and interviews with marketing industry. In total four online and one offline session were held in the series. Dr. Sukriti Sekhri, a distinguished PhD holder in Marketing from IIM Ahmedabad and Mr. Vinayak Gautam, an entrepreneur and an expert in product marketing & financial analysis, shared their real-world experiences and insights with the students.
- The Annual Fest ELIXIR’s promotional event, held on 26th April 2024.
- Live Projects: Four live projects were initiated during the year, in collaboration with prominent organizations, each aimed at providing practical knowledge and operational insights to partnering with Unnati, Rrayze Business Solutions, SocioEZ, and ZXY Marketing, participants engaged in diverse verticals such as content curation, design, outreach, HR, business development, social media marketing, sales, and outreach. These projects facilitated hands-on experience in various aspects of marketing, including promotional activities, social media management, content creation, and client outreach.
180 DC: The 180 Degrees Consulting Society

- The society worked on 6+ live projects in collaboration with NGOs such as Seva Aur Sahyog, TeacFirst Foundation, Niveda Foundation, Fauji Ke Alfaaz, PACT, Pyaare foundation to name a few. 180 DC SBS College excels in Fundraising, Market Research, Social Media Marketing, Branding, Business Strategy, and Volunteer Retention.
- Published 7+ informative research reports such as 30-minute Road to profitability, The Indian 5 Great Revolution, Economics of Layoffs, etc.
- Mentorship Sessions were organised throughout the year, conducted by consultants from leading firms in the industry, including the MBB and Big 4. These sessions have provided invaluable insights, guidance, and networking opportunities to the members by helping them gain a deeper understanding of the corporate world and develop essential skills for their future
- 180 DC has made significant strides in enhancing its social media through strategic content creation, online engagement and regular updates of activities and achievements, society has successfully built a vibrant online community.
- Inaugral Edition of 180 Impact Genesis, the Annual Fest of the society was organised on 26th April. 1st day had a strategy-based case competition, Arena 180, which received over 800 registrations nationwide, with the final offline round having seven finalist teams from Delhi University. 2nd day featured the launch of the Casebook, a comprehensive collection of case studies and solutions. Another event on the day included a networking mixer with over 45 participants from different consulting branches across various universities and colleges in Delhi. These events showcased the society’s dedication in fostering the innovation and social impact, solidifying its role as a catalyst for positive change.

- A webinar on Actuarial Science was organised on 20th October 2023, in collaboration with IMS.
- Panel discussion on “The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Different Fields of Commerce” was hosted on 17th October 2023, with Mr. Rishabh Nag, Atul Kulshreshtha, Mr. Ashwini Anand Pillutla and Mr. Akshay Bansal as the Panelists, The discussions revolved around AI’s role in startups, customer service and financial inclusion, emphasizing the continued importance of human analysis of AI-generated data. The seminar provided a comprehensive exploration of the multifaceted realm of AI, and its applications across various industries, and offered valuable insights for the attending audience.

Ecospire: The Economics Society
Movie Screening – Roger & Me
Ecospire, the Economics Society of the college, organized a screening of the documentary Roger & Me on 13th November 2024. Directed by Michael Moore, the film examines the economic decline of Flint, Michigan, following General Motors’ decision to close eleven manufacturing plants—resulting in approximately 30,000 job losses. The documentary explores themes of deindustrialisation, unemployment, globalisation, and economic inequality, while also portraying the resilience and determination of the affected former workers and local residents.
Workshop on the Gender Lens: Approaches & Praxis
Ecospire also conducted a workshop on ‘Gender Lens: Approaches & Praxis’ with Dr. Nupar Ray from Kamla Nehru College as the guest speaker. The event demonstrated how we unconsciously view society through a gendered lens and how to overcome our lack of awareness of the same. The seminar was a remarkable success and brought forth a forum for discussion of a vital and sensitive topic which is still left untouched by some sections of our society.
Economics Conundrums – A Battle of Perspectives
A workshop titled ‘Gender Lens: Approaches & Praxis’ was organised, featuring Dr Nupur Ray from Kamala Nehru College as the guest speaker. The session examined how individuals often perceive society through an unconscious gendered lens and discussed approaches to addressing this lack of awareness. The seminar was highly successful, providing a meaningful forum for the discussion of a vital and sensitive issue that remains underexplored in certain segments of society.
Special Lecture on the Union Budget
A special lecture on the Union Budget 2025–26 was organised on 12th February 2025. Dr Surajit Das, Assistant Professor at the Centre for Economic Studies and Planning, Jawaharlal Nehru University, delivered the session, which provided a comprehensive overview of key economic principles and budgetary policies. A lecture on migration in 20th-century India was delivered on 19th March 2025 by Dr Camille Buat, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Modern Indian Studies, University of Göttingen, Germany.
ECONOTIZE: The Annual fest of Ecospire
Ecospire organised its annual fest ECONOTIZE on 29th March 2025, commencing with an inaugural lecture titled “Urban Water and the Right to the City”, delivered by Professor Marie- Hélène Zérah, Senior Researcher at the Institute of Research for Development, Paris. The fest included engaging competitions such as ECONOX (the case study competition) and ECONOBID (the auction competition), both judged by faculty members from Shaheed Bhagat Singh College and other institutions.
The concluding event of the day was a panel discussion on “Decoding the Budget: Insights and Implications”, led by two eminent scholars—Professor Arun Kumar, National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, and Professor (Retd.) Pinaki Chakraborty, Centre for Economic Studies and Planning, Jawaharlal Nehru University. The discussion provided critical perspectives on the Union Budget, contributing significantly to the intellectual engagement of the audience.
Arthshodh: The Economics Research Cell
Arthshodh, the Economics Research Cell, had an eventful academic year in 2024–25, actively promoting research aptitude and analytical skills among students through a series of workshops, activities, and research-based engagements. The Cell provided a platform for students to delve into economic inquiry, data interpretation, and academic writing. Key highlights from the year are as follows:
The academic year commenced with an Orientation Programme on 25th September 2024, aimed at introducing new members to the objectives and functioning of the Research Cell. During the session, the previous year’s research projects were presented by the former Principal Investigator, providing a foundation and motivation for aspiring researchers. The session familiarised students with core components of research such as methodology, data collection, analysis, and report writing, encouraging active participation in upcoming projects.
On 10th February 2025, Data Quest was organised as a team-based analytical event. Participants, working in pairs, were assigned economic variables such as unemployment, inflation, GDP, demand, price levels, population, or related goods pricing. Each team collected data from credible sources spanning the past ten years, compiled it in tabular form, and presented notable trends and events linked to their assigned variable. The activity significantly enhanced students’ data interpretation skills and real-world economic understanding.
A One-Day Online Workshop on Research Methodology was held on 22nd March 2025 for undergraduate and postgraduate students. The workshop covered essential components of the research process, including hypothesis development, data collection methods, the use of statistical tools, and academic report writing. The session aimed to strengthen the foundational research capabilities of the participants and better prepare them for future scholarly endeavours.
The Paper Presentation Event held on 5th April 2025 welcomed student participants from various colleges across India, who presented their research findings. A total of 56 research abstracts had been received, reflecting a wide spectrum of economic perspectives and intellectual inquiry. The event served as an academic platform for emerging researchers to showcase their work, engage in critical discussions, and receive feedback from experts in the field.
In addition to this event, the research divisions of Arthshodh—Micro and Macro—actively engaged in sponsored research projects in collaboration with St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur. These projects were scheduled for completion by April 2025, with publication in the institution’s academic journal forthcoming.
The Micro division examined how perceived quality, brand popularity, and social status influence students’ preferences for branded smartphones in Delhi University colleges. Using survey data and statistical analysis, the study found battery life, branding, and social image as key factors, with price also significant due to students’ financial constraints. It recommended that domestic manufacturers focus on brand value and affordability.
The Macro division studied the impact of automation on employment in India’s manufacturing sector. Despite low robot density, sectors like textiles and electronics showed rising automation effects, particularly affecting informal workers. The research highlighted declining low-skilled jobs, rising demand for technical roles, and widening wage gaps. It proposed a policy framework focused on reskilling, education reform, and inclusive strategies to balance technological advancement with social equity.
The Department of Economics had a productive year, fostering academic excellence through lectures, workshops, competitions, and research activities. These initiatives enabled students to enhance their critical thinking, analytical skills, and intellectual engagement.

- The Economics Society’s Orientation session in September 2023 engaged 100+ students across various disciplines, introducing them to the recruitment process and addressing their queries.
- A Movie screening of ‘Too Big to Fail’ delved into the 2008 US Financial Crisis, accompanied by a quiz.
- An Eco-Visit to Gandhi Ashram intertwined economic and historical perspectives, offering a unique learning
- The International Trade Data Workshop by Mr. Vipin Kumar aimed to enhance students’ skills in analysing trade data and policy-making.
- A call for articles competition garnered entries from 300+ participants from prestigious institutions, leading to the publication of Arthanaya 2.0, focusing on ‘Rupee Going Global’ with insightful informations.
- Lastly, the Economics Baithak fostered economic inquiry through book reviews and intellectual Econotize 2024 is planned in May 2024 with the goal to promote a deeper understanding of economic principles and foster intellectual discourse among students which is a source of excitement for the students every year.
- Under the Special Economics Lecture Series, the Department of Economics organised special lectures on important topics in the domain of economics from and beyond the prescribed course curriculum of the University.

- Lecture by Dr. Pratap Mohanty, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, Indian Institute of Technology (Roorkee) was organised on October 10, 2023, on ‘Economic Impact of COVID-19-induced Lockdown on Rural Households’.
- Lecture by Prof. Pulin B. Nayak, Professor (Retd.), Department of Economics, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi organised on November 2, 2023, on the topic ‘A Reconsideration of Gandhian ’.
Arthshodh – Research Cell of Economics Department
Established in April 2023, Arthshodh, the Research Cell of the Department strives to foster research collaboration among students across all departments of the college. One of the major achievements of the cell was to conduct an extensive all-India primary survey to assess the educational impacts of the Covid 19 pandemic. The survey was conducted online and the research findings point towards significant negative effects of the pandemic on learning outcomes and mental health of undergraduate students. Additionally, students have been conducting extensive research using macroeconomic data sets, providing exposure to pan-all India and countrywide data sets.

- A comprehensive workshop on research methodology was conducted for undergraduate students on the 7th November, 2023. The session was led by Dr. Amit Kumar Sharma and Nahid Parveen, Assistant Professors in the Department of Economics. The aim was to equip students with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for conducting research effectively. This workshop served as a stepping stone for students embarking on their research journey, equipping them with the necessary tools to navigate the complex landscape of academic inquiry.
- The Research cell organised an Online Paper Presentation event on 4th April, Witnessing a participation of more than 150 undergraduate and postgraduate students from esteemed colleges all over India. The event concluded in a total of 4 technical sessions with the themes: “Macroeconomic Policy”, “Environmental Policy”, “Role of AI in Social Sector” and “Contemporary Issues in World Economy”. Prof. Vijay Vir Singh, Vice Chancellor of Apeejay Stya University, was the Chief Guest of the event.

Special lecture on “India’s space technology and sustainable development” by Prof. Chander Kumar Singh, Dean (Academics) TERI, New Delhi
India has made remarkable strides in space technology, with significant contributions to sustainable development. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) continues to play a vital role in advancing space science while addressing critical challenges related to climate change, environmental monitoring, agriculture, and resource management.
To explore the intersection of space technology and sustainability, the Department of Environmental Science organised a special lecture on the topic “India’s Space Technology and Sustainable Development.” The session was delivered by renowned environmentalist Professor Chander Kumar Singh, who offered insights into the global climate crisis, strategies for adopting sustainable practices, and emerging career opportunities in the field of green talent and environmental sustainability for aspiring young professionals.
Professor Chander Kumar Singh is a distinguished academic and researcher, currently serving as Dean (Academics) and faculty member in the Department of Natural and Applied Sciences at the TERI School of Advanced Studies (TERI SAS), New Delhi. His research interests include geochemistry, groundwater studies, and hyperspectral remote sensing. Over time, his work has expanded to examine the interactions between environmental factors and public health, with a particular focus on groundwater contamination.
The lecture provided students with a valuable perspective on the role of scientific innovation in addressing environmental challenges and highlighted pathways for impactful careers in the green economy.
Aravali Biodiversity Park, Vasant Vihar visit with 1st year AEC studentsEnvironmental education is a global priority, and in l ine with this goal, the Department of Environmental Science conducted an outreach activity on 20th March 2024 at Aravalli Biodiversity Park, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi. The visit aimed to raise awareness among students and the public about the importance of healthy ecosystems. Dr Dinesh Albertson, Scientific Officer at the park, briefed students on the ecological value of biodiversity parks in urban settings.
Aravalli Biodiversity Park is being developed on 699 acres of land previously degraded by mining and overrun with Prosopis juliflora (Vilayati Kikar). Its core mission is to restore the native biodiversity of the Delhi Aravallis. The park also promotes environmental education and public engagement, offering a space for experiential learning and awareness-building.
This outreach initiative provided participants with valuable insight into conservation efforts and the critical role of biodiversity in sustainable urban living.

Bricolage: The Literary Society
The Department of English engaged in a range of creative ventures designed to help students better understand the praxis of academic and creative theory. By adopting a dynamic, multidisciplinary approach, these initiatives bridged the gap between theoretical inquiry and artistic expression, fostering critical thinking, and intellectual engagement.
The Editorial Board of Staff Advisors and Student Editors launched the first edition of its literary magazine, Alyssum ’24, on May 7,2024 during the Annual Day celebrations. The magazine serves as a platform for literary expression, critical thought, and creative engagement, showcasing the diverse voices of students and faculty.
As part of Piazza, the English Department’s series of pseudo-symposium sessions, faculty and students collaboratively organized yet another engaging discussion on October 17th, 2024, on the evolving nature of the discipline of English. The diverse subjective perspectives enriched the dialogue, fostering a dynamic, interactive space within the classroom and encouraging in-depth literary discourse. In another such event of the Piazza, which took place on February 25th, 2025, a fun session was planned where discussions were held on “Animals in Literature and Life”. Students were delighted to share their personal stories which mirrored the events in some text or the other.
The students of the Department of English organized an enriching excursion to the Delhi Book Fair on February 6th, 2025 under Bricolage. They actively participated in literary discussions on language and attended insightful talks featuring distinguished speakers such as Shashi Tharoor and Prof. Jitendra Narayan Dash. The visit also provided an opportunity to explore the diverse world of publishing, with students engaging with works from renowned publishing houses, including Penguin Random House, HarperCollins, Bloomsbury, Rajkamal Prakashan, and Vani Prakashan.
To explore the discipline through a creative lens, the Department facilitated an engagement with visual interpretations of literary narratives through film screenings and discussions. As part of this initiative, The Color Purple, an adaptation of Alice Walker’s novel, was screened on 7th of February. The screening was followed by an in-depth discussion on narratology, media theory, the reception and interpretation of slave narratives, and their broader socio-cultural and historical dimensions.
In view of the enthusiastic participation and improved interaction from students, the Department organised similar screenings and discussions throughout February. These screenings include Fahrenheit 451 and Margarita with a Straw, each followed by critical discussions on their narrative structures, thematic concerns, and socio-political contexts.
On March 7th, 2025, a seminar was organized as part of our annual academic events, featuring distinguished speakers who shared their insights on a vast spectrum of topics and themes. The sessions were thought-provoking and provided valuable perspectives to students and faculty alike. Following the seminar, on March 8th, 2025, a series of student activities were conducted, fostering engagement, creativity, and collaboration among participants. These activities not only reinforced key learnings from the seminar but also provided an interactive platform for students to showcase their skills and enthusiasm.

Bricolage: The Literary Society
The Department of English organised various workshops and lecture series in which eminent personalities and outstanding orators helped the students venture into their fields with a multidisciplinary approach.
The Seminar and Conference Committee, operating under the auspices of Bricolage, the esteemed literary society of the college, proudly inaugurated its lecture series on October 11, 2024. Dr. Vikram Singh Thakur, Assistant Professor at the School of Letters, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University, delivered an enlightening discourse entitled “Shakespeare and Indian Theatre.”
On November 10, 2024, the Committee organised an engaging online lecture. The esteemed speaker, Dr. Divya Dwivedi, Associate Professor at IIT Delhi, captivated audiences with her presentation titled “De-canonizing Theory, Junũn-izing Canon.” The virtual platform facilitated widespread participation, fostering intellectual exchange beyond physical boundaries.
- Seminar titled “Dalit Writing as an Alternative Literary Historiography of ” was held on 6th March 2024. Esteemed scholar Prof. Raj Kumar, from the Department of English, University of Delhi, delivered a thought-provoking discourse, attracting a diverse audience keen on exploring alternative narratives in literary discourse.
- An Inter-Department Poetry Competition in accordance with Viksit Bharat 2047 took place on 6th March on the theme of “Plural Cultural Heritage”, which encompassed the diversity of our rich Indian heritage.
- The much-awaited department fest, Epiphaneia ’24 had a lot of events for students of all discipline, among the many events which took place, Litrivia was the most popular one, where students of the English Department tested their knowledge of Literature. Short-film Competition, Creative Writing Competition, Book Cover Designing and a Workshop on Screenwriting, were the events that saw large participation of students from various colleges.
- Professor Sydney R. Robeiro’s idea of a one- act play with a rolling trophy came to fruition on the 29th of April. He has started this competition in memory of his uncle Sir John Leonard Breathtaking one-act plays from different colleges of University of Delhi enamored the stage and took the audience in a roller-coaster journey of emotions with life-like characters, elaborate settings and immaculate performance by the students. The competition was held at C.D. Deshmukh Auditorium, India International Centre.
2024-25
The Department of Geography witnessed a highly engaging and academically enriching year, marked by a variety of field visits, seminars, conferences, and student-led initiatives aimed at enhancing practical knowledge and interdisciplinary understanding.
As part of its commitment to experiential learning, students of Semester VI undertook a field trip to western Gujarat to study the impact of Cyclone Biparjoy on coastal regions. The visit offered students valuable hands-on experience and an opportunity to analyse disaster management efforts in vulnerable areas. Similarly, students of Semester V conducted a field study in Joshimath, Uttarakhand, focusing on land subsidence. Through structured questionnaires, they engaged with local residents to understand the socio-environmental challenges they face. The group also trekked through Auli and the Garhwal Himalayas, gaining meaningful insights into terrain analysis and geophysical processes. Another field trip was conducted from 1st to 6th March 2025 to Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, to assess the city’s carrying capacity and landslide susceptibility. Students conducted surveys in areas such as Tutikandi, Boileauganj, Chaura Maidan, Summerhill, and Mall Road. They also attended an academic session at Himachal Pradesh University and visited Kandaghat for extended data collection. An interactive session with a Forest Officer at Chail Palace further deepened their understanding of environmental challenges in the region.
The academic year began with an Orientation and Freshers’ Meet, hosted by the Geography Association, to welcome incoming students. The event facilitated interaction between faculty members, senior students, and freshers. Various engaging activities and games were conducted, and faculty members offered valuable guidance and shared their experiences with the students.
A series of academic events contributed to the department’s intellectual environment. A seminar on “Floodplains Hydromorphic Assessment Using Optical and Radar Remote Sensing Methods” was delivered by Dr Manudeo Singh, Newton International Fellow at Aberystwyth University, UK. The session emphasised the importance of wetland creation and sustainable conservation approaches and was well-attended by both students and faculty. Another important academic initiative was the inaugural lecture on “Careers and Placements in Geography”, delivered by Professor Anu Kapur from the Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi. The lecture offered practical insights into the application of geotechnical skills in the professional world and guided students on enhancing their competencies for career development.
The department also hosted an International Conference titled “Urban Development Missions, Restructuring of Spaces, and the Emergence of New Urbanism.” This two-day event featured multiple research paper presentations and discussions centred around urbanisation trends and their implications. The conference concluded with a valedictory session attended by eminent professors and researchers from various institutions. A Cultural Night was held on the first day, providing an engaging and lively platform for student participation.
The annual departmental magazine, Landscape 2025, was launched on 8th March 2025 during the department’s flagship festival VASUNDHARA. Titled “Geospatial Perspectives: From Source to Sea”, this edition included research contributions from emerging scholars, focusing on river morphology. The editorial team ensured rigorous academic review, and the publication reflected the department’s dedication to research excellence.
The annual fest VASUNDHARA 2025 was held on 8th March 2025 on the theme “Geographies of Power and People: The Socio-Political Landscape of the Global South.” Distinguished guests, Professor Vijoy S. Sahay and Professor S.M. Patnaik, graced the event. The festival featured a variety of competitive and cultural events, including Spatswar (music competition), Echoes and Eloquence (extempore contest), Darpan-e-Dastan (reel-making competition), and Thought Meridian (Youth Parliament). The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from colleges and universities across the country, creating a vibrant platform for academic discourse and creative expression.
Through its blend of fieldwork, academic engagement, and student-led initiatives, the Department of Geography continues to provide a well-rounded educational experience, preparing students for both academic and professional excellence.

- The 17th Volume of annual magazine “Landscape” with the Theme: Geo- Environmental Hazards and Disasters was published by the Department of Geography.
- The department organised its annual fest Vasundhara, with the theme “Earth in Pixels – Exploring GeoAI’s Impact on Geography”. The fest was graced by the presence of Chief Guest Prof. Tejbir Singh Rana. The program comprised five distinct events including GEOQUORUM (Debate Competition), GEOBIZ (Business Plan Competition), INTELLECTUS (Quiz Competition), GLOBESHOTS (Online Photography Competition), and GEOGRAPHIKOS (Poster Making Competition).
- A Field Survey was undertaken at the banks of Yamuna River, Okhla. This Field visit was conducted to study Delhi Floods 2023 for the Disaster Management Based Project work course of semester VI students during February 21-25, The areas covered were Jagatpur, Majnu ka Tila, Civil Lines, Yamuna Bazar, Yamuna Bank metro station area, Okhla.
- Field survey in Gujarat was organised for the students of semester VI between 28nd of March to 3rd April 2024. The topic of the Fieldwork was “Assessing the impact of the Biparjoy cyclone in the Western Coastal “
- The Department of Geography organised the field work trip at Indian Agriculture Research Institute (IARI), Delhi for the students of IV semester on 15th April The topic of the Fieldwork was “Recent development in Agriculture Research”.

- दिनांक 24 नवंबर 2024, को दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के प्रतिष्ठित महाविद्यालय की श्रेणी में आने वाले शहीद भगत सिंह महाविद्यालय में “हिंदी मीडिया और लोकतंत्र” विषय पर ‘अनहद’ का आयोजन हुआ। इस व्याख्यान में वरिष्ठ प्रोफेसर सुधा सिंह(हिंदी विभाग,दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय), सिक्ता देव (एन.डी.टी.वी पत्रकार) और नीलू रंजन (विशेष संवाददाता दैनिक जागरण) ने अपनी उपस्थिति दर्ज कराकर कार्यक्रम की शोभा बढ़ाई|

- दिनांक 04 अक्टूबर 2024, को दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के प्रतिष्ठित महाविद्यालयों की श्रेणी में आने वाले शहीद भगत सिंह महाविद्यालय में “वैश्विक स्तर पर हिंदी शिक्षण: दशा और दिशा” विषय पर ‘अनहद 2.0’ का आयोजन हुआ। व्याख्यान में डॉ. ग्रेगरी वाई गोल्डिंग (एसोसिएट प्रोफेसर, साउथ एशिया अध्ययन विभाग) और डॉ सुनील कुमार वर्मा (असिस्टेंट प्रोफेसर, हिन्दी विभाग, दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय) ने अपनी उपस्थिति दर्ज कराकर कार्यक्रम की शोभा बढ़ाई|
- कार्यक्रम में दोनों अतिथियों द्वारा ‘हिंदी भाषा और साहित्य ‘की वैश्विक स्तर पर बढ़ती लोकप्रियता व प्रयोग के अलग स्तर आदि के बारे में बताया गया। उन्होंने अपने वक्तव्य में यह भी कहा कि भारत की आर्थिक शक्ति और सांस्कृतिक प्रभाव के कारण दुनिया भर में हिंदी सीखने वालों की संख्या बढ़ रही है तथा हिंदी भाषा का भविष्य विश्व में उज्जवल है।

- दिनांक 21 फरवरी 2025, को दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय की श्रेणी में आने वाले शहीद भगत सिंह महाविद्यालय में “बाजार और स्त्री मुक्ति का प्रश्न” विषय पर ‘अनहद 3.0’ का आयोजन हुआ। इस व्याख्यान में प्रो. स्वाति श्वेता(प्रोफेसर, हिंदी विभाग, गार्गी कॉलेज, दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय) और डॉ ज्योति चावला(एसोसिएट प्रोफेसर, इग्नू, नई दिल्ली) ने अपनी उपस्थिति दर्ज करा कर कार्यक्रम की शोभा बढ़ाई।
- कार्यक्रम में दोनों अतिथियों ने ‘बाजार और स्त्री मुक्ति का प्रश्न‘ पर अपना–अपना मत दिया, दोनों ने स्पष्ट कहा कि बाजार का उद्देश्य केवल मुनाफा है सामाजिक क्रांति या विकास नहीं। उनका मानना है कि प्रयासों की जड़ में भी केवल मुनाफा ही बाजार का लक्ष्य है। उन्होंने स्टेरीओटाइप को तोड़ने की बात कही तथा ‘ओब्जेक्टीफीकेशन ऑफ़ वीमेन’ पर अपनी बात रखी

- दिनांक 03 मार्च 2025, को दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के प्रतिष्ठित महाविद्यालय की श्रेणी में आने वाले शहीद भगत सिंह महाविद्यालय में “रचना प्रक्रिया और लेखक से मुलाकात” विषय पर अनहद 4.0 का आयोजन हुआ। इस व्याख्यान में डॉ. उमाशंकर चौधरी (सुप्रसिद्ध लेखक, असिस्टेंट प्रोफेसर, स्वामी श्रद्धानंद कॉलेज) और डॉ. प्रवीण कुमार (सुप्रसिद्ध कथाकार,एसोसिएट प्रोफेसर, हिन्दी विभाग, दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय) ने अपनी उपस्थिति दर्ज करा कर कार्यक्रम की शोभा बढ़ाई। साथ ही इस कार्यक्रम में ‘यायावर उपन्यास‘ पुस्तक का विमोचन भी किया गया।
- कार्यक्रम में दोनों अतिथियों द्वारा रचना लेखन के महत्व के बारे में बताया गया। उनके द्वारा कहा गया कि किसी भी लेखक में अपरिपक्वता होना आवश्यक है, यदि हमारे अन्दर परिपक्वता आ जाती है तो शायद हम एक सफल रचनाकार नहीं बन सकते।
- साहित्य में बौद्धिक ज्ञान की अपेक्षा उन्होंने ग्रहणशीलता के गुण के बारे में बताया। साथ ही लेखन कार्य को प्रतिदिन करते रहना जरूरी बताया। एक सफल लेखक में संवेदनशीलता के महत्व पर भी प्रकाश डाला।
हिंदी वार्षिकोत्सव
“मंत्रणा”
- दिनांक 22 मार्च 2025, शनिवार को शहीद भगत सिंह महाविद्यालय में हिंदी दिवस समारोह के अंतर्गत एक सेमिनार का आयोजन किया गया जिसका विषय “स्त्री सशक्तिकरण : चुनौतियां और अवसर” था I इस सेमिनार का मुख्य उद्देश्य ‘मंत्रणा‘ थीम के माध्यम से विभिन्न सामाजिक और सांस्कृतिक मुद्दों पर चर्चा करना था। कार्यक्रम में काव्य पाठ, निबंध लेखन, भाषण प्रतियोगिता,और लोकगीत प्रतियोगिता जैसी विभिन्न प्रतियोगिताओं का आयोजन किया गया।
- कार्यक्रम की मुख्य अतिथि हिंदी विभाग की वरिष्ठ प्रोफेसर, सुधा सिंह जी थीं। उन्होंने महिला सशक्तिकरण पर अपने विचार व्यक्त करते हुए कहा कि यह विषय समाज के लिए न केवल जरूरी है, बल्कि यह समाज के समग्र विकास में एक महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाता है। उन्होंने उल्लेख किया कि महिलाओं को आज भी विभिन्न चुनौतियों का सामना करना पड़ता है, जैसे लिंग भेदभाव, घरेलू हिंसा, और आर्थिक असमानता। हालांकि, उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि महिलाएं अब अपने अधिकारों के लिए आवाज उठा रही हैं और समाज में परिवर्तन लाने के लिए संघर्ष कर रही हैं।
- प्रोफेसर सुधा सिंह ने कहा कि स्त्री सशक्तिकरण के लिए शिक्षा, आर्थिक स्वतंत्रता, और सामाजिक समर्थन आवश्यक हैं। उन्होंने यह भी बताया कि पुरुषों की भूमिका भी इस प्रक्रिया में महत्वपूर्ण है, क्योंकि वे महिलाओं के अधिकारों का समर्थन करके लिंग भेदभाव को कम कर सकते हैं। उनका वक्तव्य श्रोताओं के लिए अत्यंत प्रेरणादायक और प्रभावशाली था, जिसने सभी को स्त्री सशक्तिकरण के बारे में गहराई से सोचने की दिशा दी।
प्रतियोगिताएँ और विजेता सम्मान:
इस सेमिनार में विभिन्न महाविद्यालयों के छात्रों ने विभिन्न प्रतियोगिताओं में भाग लिया। काव्य पाठ, निबंध लेखन, भाषण प्रतियोगिता, और लोकगीत प्रतियोगिता ने छात्रों के रचनात्मक और भाषिक कौशल को प्रदर्शित करने का शानदार अवसर प्रदान किया। विजेताओं को कार्यक्रम में सम्मानित किया गया, और उनके उत्कृष्ट प्रयासों की सराहना की गई। इन प्रतियोगिताओं में छात्रों ने अपनी कला और विचारों का प्रदर्शन किया, जो सेमिनार के उद्देश्य को और अधिक सशक्त बनाते हैं।
समारोह का समापन:
इस प्रेरक कार्यक्रम के साथ ही हिंदी साहित्योत्सव समारोह का आयोजन सफलतापूर्वक संपन्न हुआ। छात्रों और उपस्थित श्रोताओं ने कार्यक्रम को सराहा और इसने सभी को सामाजिक मुद्दों पर सोचने और बदलाव लाने के लिए प्रेरित किया।
‘अनहद 5.O’
- दिनांक 08 अप्रैल 2025, मंगलवार को हिंदी सृजन साहित्य सभा द्वारा “अनहद 5.0” के अंतर्गत एक दिवसीय सेमिनार का आयोजन किया गया। सेमिनार का विषय था – “कबीर और आज का समाज”, जो वर्तमान समय में अपनी गूंज और प्रासंगिकता के लिए अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है।
- इस संगोष्ठी के मुख्य वक्ता रहे प्रोफेसर अनिल राय, जो इस समय दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के हिंदी विभाग में प्रोफेसर के पद पर कार्यरत हैं। कार्यक्रम का शुभारंभ हिंदी विभागाध्यक्ष डॉ. राजकुमार राजन ने किया। अपने उद्घाटन भाषण में उन्होंने संत कबीर की विचारधारा, उनके सामाजिक योगदान और आज के युग में उनकी प्रासंगिकता पर प्रकाश डाला।
- मुख्य वक्तव्य में प्रोफेसर अनिल राय ने संत कबीर को मध्यकालीन हिंदी साहित्य का एक सशक्त स्वर बताते हुए कहा कि कबीर की कविताएँ आज भी समाज को आईना दिखाने का कार्य कर रही हैं। उन्होंने बताया कि कबीर सीधे जनता से संवाद करते हैं, उनकी कविता जीवन की सच्चाई और जनवादी सोच से ओत–प्रोत है।
- प्रो. राय ने यह भी कहा कि कबीर ने सत्ता और पाखंड का विरोध किया, निर्गुण भक्ति का समर्थन किया और कर्म को जीवन का आधार माना। उन्होंने यह स्पष्ट किया कि कबीर की कविता आत्मानुभूति की कविता है, जो व्यक्ति को अपने भीतर झाँकने की प्रेरणा देती है। जब ज्ञान के साथ संवेदना जुड़ जाती है, तभी वह समाज को दिशा देने में सक्षम होता है – यह कबीर का मूल संदेश रहा है।
- यह सेमिनार न केवल अकादमिक रूप से समृद्ध रहा, बल्कि विद्यार्थियों और शोधार्थियों के लिए संत कबीर के विचारों को नए दृष्टिकोण से समझने का एक उत्तम अवसर भी सिद्ध हुआ।
2023-24
- अभिमुखीकरण कार्यक्रम: हिंदी साहित्य सभा, हिंदी विभाग, हिंदी भाग्य मास्टर हावर्डिय (दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय) में हिंदी प्रतिष्ठा के नागरिक विद्यार्थियों द्वारा 16/08/2023 को उनका पदभार ग्रहण कराया गया। उनके लिए एक उद्घाटन समारोह आयोजित कर उनका अभिनंदन किया गया। कार्यक्रम में विद्यार्थियों को विश्वविद्यालय की विभिन्न गतिविधियों के बारे में जानकारी दी गई। विद्यार्थियों को सजन हिंदी साहित्य सभा के बारे में बताया गया कि हिंदी विभाग की सजन हिंदी साहित्य सभा किस प्रकार अपना कार्य करती है तथा इस सभा में सदस्यों की क्या भूमिका होती है।
- व्याख्यान: साजन, हिंदी साहित्य सभा द्वारा 22 नवंबर, 2023 को ‘कहानी और समाज’ विषय पर व्याख्यान आयोजित किया गया। इस कार्यक्रम के मुख्य वक्ता सत्यनारायण पूजा (दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय) के डॉ. प्रवीण कुमार थे। अपने व्याख्यान में डॉ. प्रवीण कुमार ने कहानी और समाज के बीच के गैर-अनुशासनात्मक संबंध पर गंभीर विचार करते हुए बताया कि किस तरह की कहानी समाज को न केवल सजाती है बल्कि बनाती भी है, वहीं दूसरी ओर उन्होंने हिंदी कहानी के कई संदर्भों को ध्यान में रखते हुए बताया कि किस तरह का समाज कहानी को रचनात्मक जीवन प्रदान करता है।
- कार्यशाला: हिंदी साहित्य सभा ने 3 अप्रैल, 2024 को ‘स्नातक के बाद करियर विकल्प’ विषय पर कार्यशाला आयोजित की। कार्यशाला भगवंत मस्जिद विश्वविद्यालय के हिंदी करियर विभाग के प्रोफेसर अतानी कुमार के मार्गदर्शन में आयोजित की गई। इस अवसर पर प्रोफेसर अतानी कुमार ने अपने व्याख्यान में हिंदी के छात्रों पर ध्यान केंद्रित करते हुए रोजगारपरकता के बारे में बात की। उन्होंने कहा कि हिंदी विषय से स्नातक करने वाले छात्रों के लिए रोजगार के कई क्षेत्र और अवसर हैं। इस संबंध में उन्होंने छात्रों के समक्ष रोजगार से संबंधित क्षेत्रों की एक लंबी सूची प्रस्तुत की और इससे संबंधित टिप्स भी दिए।
- आगाज-ए-खैरी, 2024: साजन, हिंदी साहित्य सभा द्वारा 1 मई, 2024 को हिंदी विभाग का वार्षिक उत्सव ‘आगाज-ए-खैरी’ आयोजित किया गया। यह कार्यक्रम दो चरणों में आयोजित किया गया। पहले चरण में काव्य समीक्षक विजयेंद्र नारायण साही की जयंती के उपलक्ष्य में ‘साही जी का काव्य व्याख्यान सह काव्यपाठ’ का आयोजन किया गया। इस कार्यक्रम के मुख्य व्याख्याता हिंदी के प्रख्यात लेखक-आलोचक प्रोफेसर सर गोपेश्वर सिंह थे। उन्होंने वरजयदेव नारायण साही के साहित्यिक योगदान को व्यापक रूप से सभी के सामने प्रस्तुत किया। इस कार्यक्रम का दूसरा वर्ष युवा आवरण उज्ज्हि काख था। कार्यक्रम के दूसरे चरण में दो प्रतियोगिताएं आयोजित की गईं- I. कविता पाठ प्रतियोगिता और II. साहसिक प्रश्नोत्तरी प्रतियोगिता।
2024-25
- Documentary Screening on Quit India Movement: Historia, the History Society, conducted its first event for the session 2024-25 on September 6, 2024. The event consisted of a documentary screening based on ‘The Quit India Movement’ and a group discussion on the same that followed. The documentary was an illuminating presentation on the complexities of the movement, taking in consideration the various strands of the movement amidst a number of social classes and regions of the country. The department also held a short Quiz on the topic for the new first year students who performed delightfully well and displayed their knowledge of the freedom struggle in particular.
- Documentary Screening on Secrets of Sinauli: Historia screened a documentary on the secrets of Sinauli on September 18, 2024, arguably the greatest archaeological find of the 21st century. This archaeological site has revealed the remains of 116 human burials dating back to 4000 years. The most important archaeological find from Sinauli is a horse-driven chariot dating back to 2000 BCE made of wood and copper. The discovery of chariots from Sinauli has changed the notion of Indian history.
- Workshop on Brahmi Script (14-18 October, 2024): The first workshop organised by Historia from October 14-18, 2024 was led by Mr. Shubham Kewaliya, alumni of Institute of Archaeology, ASI and Assistant Professor, SBSC. Brahmi is a writing system from ancient India that appeared as a fully developed script in the 3rd century BCE. Its descendants, the Brahmic scripts, continue to be used today across South and Southeastern Asia. The workshop aimed to provide students with invaluable insights into one of India’s oldest writing systems. The event facilitated an enriching learning experience, equipping attendees with a deeper understanding of India’s rich cultural heritage and historical significance.
Documentary screening on Veer Savarkar: Historia organised a thought-provoking documentary screening on Veer Savarkar on March 4, 2025. Numerous people sacrificed their lives for the nation. Historia with its initiative to display their sacrifice, their role and their importance in the Indian freedom struggle organised this documentary.
2023-24
Events
During this academic year, the Department of History conducted various events including lectures, workshops, heritage walks, visits to many monuments of historical importance, and several competitions which helped the students to enhance their historical knowledge and widened their cultural awareness by fostering critical thinking.
- The department organised inaugural lecture on 5th October 2023 delivered by the distinguished Prof. Arvind Sinha, a luminary from the prestigious Centre for Historical Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University on the topic “New Perspectives In Understanding The French Revolution.”
- GYAAN ARJAN, a collaborative endeavour by Historia – The History Society and Minerva – The Quizzing Society was held on 28-29 November, This two-day intellectual extravaganza featured an enlightening session by Dr. Bhuwan Kumar Jha, Associate Professor, Department of History, University of Delhi on the topic ‘Congress, League and the Partition of India’ followed by a quiz competition on the following day.
- HISTORIA organised an educational field trip to Bhopal from 26-30 January, 2024.
- On February 28th, 2024 HISTORIA collaborated with the Centre for Shaheed Bhagat Singh Studies and Research to commemorate the death anniversary of the legendary freedom fighter, Chandrashekhar. The event paid tribute to his indomitable spirit and unwavering commitment to the cause of Indian independence.
- On March 7th 2024, Department of History under the aegis of IQAC, in collaboration with the Jammu Kashmir Study Centre, Delhi Chapter hosted a seminar titled “Viksit Bharat: Occupied Territories of Bharat – Our Land, Our People.” This thought-provoking event delved into the complex and multifaceted situation in the regions of Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh. The esteemed speaker for the session was Professor Kuldip Chand Agnihotri, former Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Himachal Pradesh and Advisor in the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
- Historia under the aegis of IQAC, Viksit Bharat conducted the “Brahmi Script Workshop of Ancient Bharat” on March 18, 2024. Led by esteemed faculty and alumni of the Institute of Archaeology, ASI Shubham Kewaliya, the workshop aimed to provide students with invaluable insights into one of India’s oldest writing systems.
- On April 11th 2024, Historia (The History Society), Department of History conducted a field trip to Rakhigarhi, the largest and one of the most significant archaeological site associated with the Indus Valley Civilization in India.
YUGANTAR: The Annual History Fest 2024 (April 22-23, 2024)
Every year the history department conducts its much-awaited cultural fest, “YUGATAR”. This year it was organised on 22nd & 23rd April. The event commenced with a lecture session delivered by the distinguished archaeologist, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Manjul, Additional-Director General, ASI. Following this, several events took place concurrently, including an Open-Mic Competition, Photography Competition cum Exhibition, and a Quiz competition. On Day 2, the department organised a Heritage Walk to the Qutub Minar Complex, which was attended by around 40 students.
2024-25
- Alumni Talks: The department hosted insightful alumni sessions, where former students shared their career journeys: Tanishk Agarwal (2024 Batch, 18th January 2025) provided a roadmap for cracking IIT JAM, and transitioning to IISc Bangalore after undergrad; Swapnil Singh (2017 Batch, 9th February 2025) joined us from Germany and discussed studying in Germany, finding jobs, covering applications and scholarships; Ishita Singh (2023 Batch, 10th February 2025) explained the corporate applications of mathematics in data analysis, finance, and risk management and getting into consulting; Subodh Singh (2023 Batch, 15th February 2025) shared his journey as an actuary, exam strategies, and its role in insurance and risk assessment; Anoushka Ghosh (2020 Batch, 23rd February 2025) shared her experience of Master’s in Statistics and Data Science from University of Edinburgh and bagging a job in Hastings Direct as a Data Scientist in UK.
- AI using Mathematics and Recent Technologies: On 1st February, 2025, Prof. Mansaf Alam, a renowned professor at Jamia Millia Islamia, explained the mathematical foundations of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how concepts like linear algebra, probability, and optimization drive AI advancements. He also discussed recent breakthroughs in machine learning and their real-world applications.
- Nonlinear Dynamics and Mathematical Modeling: On 17th February, 2025, Prof. Rashmi Bhardwaj, a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and Applications (UK), introduced students to nonlinear systems, chaos theory, and mathematical modeling. She demonstrated how these concepts are applied in fields like climate science, epidemiology, and finance, sparking curiosity among attendees.
- NGO Visit: On 20th February 2025, volunteers visited TARA NGO (Navjeevan Vihar, Hauz Khas), engaging underprivileged children in math-based activities like Chess, Sudoku, and Vedic Maths puzzles to make learning fun, additionally the students donated clothes and books along with delicacies to the children. This visit was not only enlightening but knowledgeable for the children to such an extent that TARA NGO has asked the Mathematics Department of SBSC to start pro bono classes on Mathematics for them on a regular basis.
- Ganitam 2025 – Annual Mathematics Fest: The fest featured Numeric Expedition (live quiz) – a problem-solving adventure across campus; IPL Auction – a strategic bidding challenge based on analytics; Escape Room – math-based puzzles to solve within a time limit; Analytica (data analysis case competition) – a real-world dataset analysis using Excel and Power BI; Chess, Sudoku, and Rubik’s Cube Challenge – a fun event aimed at improving logical thinking skills; Paper Presentation where participants presented an abstract of their research paper based on the topic provided through a slide presentation.
- Annual Magazine: The department is launching its first-ever magazine in June 2025, featuring research insights, interviews, and creative student contributions.
2023-24
Events
On 16th October 2023, the Department of Mathematics organised a talk on the topic ‘A Glimpse of India’s Achievements in Space Activities’ by Prof. Ram Krishna Sharma, Former Head of the Applied Mathematics Division at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Center.
- On 18th March 2024, the Department of Mathematics, as part of the Vikshit Bharat@2047 initiative, organised an invited talk on the topic ‘Tere Mere Beech ..’ by Prof. R. K. Sharma, ConsenSys Blockchain Chair Professor and Former Head of the Department of Mathematics at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi.
- On the occasion of National Mathematics Day, the Mathematics Society presented a documentary on the life & achievements of great Indian Mathematician Srinivas Ramanujan- “The Man Who Knew Infinity”.
- An Online Quiz and Presentation competition was successfully organised by The Mathematics Society on 7, 8, 11 February The event saw a large amount of participation by students from various colleges across the country.
- The Mathematics Society of the Mathematics Department organised its annual intercollege festival ‘Ganitam’ on 13th April, 2024. The following events were organised:
- Numeric Expedition- A Quiz Competition motivated the students to use their knowledge of mathematics in solving mind challenging quiz.
- The Escape Room engaged the students in a thrilling challenge to solve intricate puzzles and find their way out of a room filled with mystery.
- Analytica- Where students showcased their mathematical analysis skills by extracting insights from databases.
- Some exciting rounds of Chess, Sudoku and Rubiks cube are also organised on Ganitam 2024.
2024-25
- Panel Discussion on China in the World Order: Implications for Indian Security: The Department of Political Science, SBSC panel discussion on 20th September 2024, featuring Major Namrata Dhasmana (Retd.), a geopolitical analyst, moderated by Dr. Rityusha Mani Tiwary. Major Dhasmana provided key insights into China’s global role, India’s security strategies, and Indo-Pacific concerns.
- Special Lecture on Gandhi’s Concept of Satyagraha: Relevance in Today’s Times: An enlightening seminar on the relevance of Satyagraha was held on 1 October, 2024, led by Prof. Manoranjan Mohanty. He elucidated how non-violent resistance continues to shape justice and democracy. Drawing on the philosophies of Gandhi and Nelson Mandela, he encouraged participants to explore seminal texts like Hind Swaraj and My Experiments with Truth.
- Workshop on The Gender Lens: Approaches And Praxis: With the vision of creating a more inclusive and equitable society, the Departments of Political Science and Economics organized a transformative workshop October 7, 2024. Keynote speaker Dr. Nupur Ray engaged participants in thought-provoking discussions on gender roles, societal expectations, and inclusivity.
- Interview Session with AIR 462 – Rituraj Sarma: The Magazine Committee of the Department hosted an insightful session with Mr. Rituraj Sarma, AIR 462 in UPSC CSE 2023 on October 8th, 2024 through online mode. A 2022 graduate of the college, he cleared UPSC in his first attempt. He emphasized determination, strategic planning, self-discipline, early answer writing, current affairs, and CSAT practice.
- Interview Session on Civil Services Preparation and Life as an IPS Officer: The Magazine Committee of the Department organized an insightful online session on 25th October 2024 with IPS Aashna Chaudhary. Ms. Chaudhary elaborated on key strategies, including selecting the right optional subjects, and maintaining a structured study schedule. Additionally, she provided insights into the responsibilities of an IPS officer, discussing leadership, integrity, and decision-making.
- Interview Session on Preparation Strategy and Life as an IAS Officer: The Magazine Committee of the Department organized an online interview session with IAS officer Mr. Anubhav Singh (AIR 34 in CSE 2022) on October 27, 2024. He shared challenges of balancing UPSC preparation with teaching at Lucknow University, highlighting resilience and continuous improvement.
- Interview Session on The Current Trajectory of India’s Foreign Policy: The Magazine Committee of the Department organized an online interview to understand India’s foreign policy on 28th October 2024. The meeting featured the distinguished Mr. Shiv Shankar Menon, former Foreign Secretary and National Security Advisor, who shared his profound expertise on India’s evolving diplomatic landscape. It was an enriching experience that inspired students and scholars alike, fostering a deeper understanding of India’s role in shaping international affairs.
- Book Review & Guest Lecture: The Book Discussion Committee of the Department organized an event on 8th November 2024, featuring a review of the book Hobbes Against Friendship by Prof. Gabriella Slomp, shedding light on Thomas Hobbes’ views regarding human relationships and political structures. Following this, a lecture on “Hobbes and the Modern Political Community” was delivered by Prof. Ashok Acharya, Department of Political Science, University of Delhi, and a visiting professor at Yale University.
- Session on Writing Research Articles: Tracing The Steps: The Department organized an online workshop on November 12, 2024, featuring Dr. Rupak Kumar, Assistant Professor at VIT Vellore. The session aimed to guide students through academic writing and publication, starting with identifying research gaps and formulating significant research questions. The interactive workshop addressed common challenges, including overcoming writer’s block, using citation tools, and improving manuscript quality.
- Workshop on Masters and Ph.D. Applications Abroad: The Department, in collaboration with Project EduAccess, organized a live workshop on 16th November 2024, featuring the distinguished Khushi Anupriya Dudi, Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters in Global Development Policy, Europe and Pooja Singh, PhD in Political Science, Boston University, USA. The speakers shared their personal experiences, highlighting challenges and strategies for securing admissions to top international universities.
- Session on Indian Judiciary and Impending Reforms, with Special Evaluation of DY Chandrachud’s Term: The Department organized an online session on 23rd November 2024 featuring Saurav Das, a renowned investigative journalist. Key issues such as judicial transparency, pendency of cases, access to justice, and the need for technology-driven reforms to enhance efficiency in the legal system were addressed.
- Roundtable Discussion on “गांधी: बहुसमयत और सतत्सांवद“: The Gandhi Study Circle, in collaboration with the Department organized on 1st February an event that hosted a delegation from Gujarat Vidyapith, Ahmedabad, engaging in a thought-provoking discussion on the relevance of Gandhi’s philosophy in contemporary times.
- Workshop on Policy Research: The Department, in collaboration with the Career Counselling and Guidance Cell, organized a workshop on 3rd February 2025. Mr. Ritwik Mehta, political strategist and founder of NitiTantra, was the keynote speaker. The event explored policy research, its role in governance, and data-driven decision-making.
- Faculty-led Session on The Role of Blockchain in Financial Services: The Department, in collaboration with Mahindra University, organized a session on February 13, 2025, led by Prof. Sanjay Mansabdar, Professor of Practice at Mahindra University, who provided an in-depth analysis of blockchain technology and its growing significance in the financial sector. He discussed its potential to enhance transparency, security, and efficiency in transactions.
- Chanakya – The Annual Cultural Fest: The Department successfully organized its annual fest on 1st March 2025. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various universities, making it a grand celebration of intellect, debate, and cultural vibrancy. The day was graced by Prof. Bijayalaxmi Nanda, who delivered an insightful address on Women at the helm of India’s growth story in 2047 contemporary political discourse. The highlight was the official launch of the department’s Annual Magazine – “चक्रviewह”, a compilation of thought-provoking articles, research, and student contributions. The fest featured शास्त्रार्थ, a riveting semi-parliamentary debate, along with Policraft, a policy-making challenge that tested analytical acumen. The day concluded with Shaam Shandaar, a mesmerizing cultural evening filled with music, dance, and artistic expressions. With an overwhelming response, CHANAKYA 2025 proved to be a dynamic platform for intellectual exchange and creative expression.

Events
- Political Science Association organised its first event, a lecture as a part of its “Distinguished Lecture Series Edition” on 01/11/2023. The lecture had the theme of “Systemic Causes of The Problems Facing China’s Economy in the New Era”, delivered by Dr. Pradeep Taneja, a Senior Lecturer in Asian Politics.
- Political Science Association of the Department of Political Science in collaboration with the Jean Monnet Module, Centre for European Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University organised its second event, a quiz competition followed by a live streaming of a Panel Discussion on the topic “Europe in India’s Security Calculus” on 23/11/2023. The session included reputed personalities like Dr. Hans-Gert Pöttering, former President of the European Parliament, Prof. Klaus Welle, former Secretary General of the European Parliament, Mr. Manjeev Singh Puri, former Indian Ambassador to the European Union, and Prof. Harsh Pant.
- The Department of Political Science, in association with Gandhi Study Circle (SBSC) organised special lecture by Ujjawal Singh on Gandhi “Indian Constitutionalism: Gandhian Experiments” on 28.11.2023.
- The Department of Political Science, with 3 faculty members and 74 students, participated in the International Lecture Series: organised by Jean Monnet Module, Centre for European Studies, JNU, on 20.02.2024 where Ambassador Manjeev Singh Puri, Klaus Welle, Dr. Sheetal Sharma, Prof. Ummu Salma Bava and others spoke about the upcoming elections in the European Union, Mother of all Parliaments and shed light on the workings of democracy in large territories like India and the EU.
